Just as I opened up blogger to create a post, Pouddy came up on my desk and is now lying in between my arms as I type with her head resting on my arm. So freaking adorable.
Today was terrible as I slowly but surely plugged away on my lesson plan that I promised myself I'd have done by Thursday. Oops. Then there was work which, as a co-worker who was hired just after me agreed, has lost its appeal and spark. I guess there comes a time when working at the Beer Store just isn't as exciting as it used to be. Perhaps they should give us some free beer to boost morale.
So yesterday was a PD day, which meant for me, as a preservice teacher in practicum at an elementary school, a day of professional development fun! (right). Well, it wasn't so bad. While a lot of the time was wasted with chit chatting, I did manage to make some use of the day. In the morning workshop we had to separate into groups and review a chapter of a ministry document, which we later had to present to everyone else. (a strategy called "jigsawing" if anyone cares). Anyway, being as I am still fairly new to this school and don't really know many of the teachers, I thought it would be good if I made an impression and presented my group's chapter. As it happened, the 2 teachers I was with didn't feel like talking, so I lucked out. I was nervous to get up in front of the staff, and I could feel myself shaking as I spoke, but I am really glad I went through with it. During the lunch break several teachers, including the principal, complemented me on my presentation voice and skills.
Wow.
Talk about a networking opportunity. Let's just hope this principal remembers her kind words should I come looking for a job next year:)
And now I am off to bed to dream of more lesson plans and all the work I have to do tomorrow.
Sweet dreams.

I used to teach. I taught all levels from kindergarten through college.
An old teacher's trick is to look at the teacher's copy of the book and copy down each chapter's discription.
You will find the goals etc. of each lesson there.
Just re-write the chapter discription in lesson plan format.
Depending on the subject area, you can also tell what the student will do to accomplish these goals, a particular exercise, game, films etc.
The lesson plan will practically write itself!
My lesson plans where published as a pattern for other teachers in the state and local teacher's guides.
LOL, LOL, LOL.
What people do not understand that the introduction of each chapter of the teacher's manual is the lesson plan.
WHOO HOOO NAtalie is going to be a teacher. I am so excited.!
