Ah spring. The snow is almost completely gone and the sun is shining happiness over the darkness of winter. It's all so beautiful. But alas, I cannot enjoy it yet. The beginning of April is upon us and therefore school is almost out. Only 5 school days left for me in the next 2 weeks, and so much to do in such little time.
Presently, since I am blogging and not working, I am procrastinating for my seminar tomorrow in my First Nations Literature class. The book was mediocre, and the seminar is not coming along so well. I am struggling with the content of the text (since there really isn't a lot to go on) and how I will approach the class with something quasi intelligent and believable. Last week I told my professor that I was having trouble deciding on a topic for my presentation, to which he responded, "I know! There's just so much in the text to choose from!" This is coming from the man who said the book was very pornographic and erotic,(reason numero uno why I choose the book) when really it just has a couple of pages of harlequinesque smut that is terribly written. I am beginning to wonder if some texts are published simply because they are from a certain genre of writers, and not because they are actually any good.
In other news, Paul, my parents, Maddie and I went to a sugar bush on the weekend. It was a gorgeous day, and so of course the place was packed. I was disappointed to find that there were no actual buckets hanging on trees (something only very small maple farms still use) but rather just blue hoses coming out of the trunks. We did manage to find a sap pipeline that had sprung a leak however, which was exciting since it looked like it was raining sap. Pictures can be found at the usual location, being here. We didn't end up staying for a mapley pancake breakfast though, due to the aforementioned crowdiness, but we did go to Almonte for a loverly lunch by the falls. Over lunch we heard Blue Rodeo and Cat Stevens on the radio, which, I must say, was a nice touch. Paul made up for the missed maplefarm breakfast by baking me good old fashioned beans yesterday, which were quite yummy and surely quite fattening.
Which brings me to this evening and my weightloss meeting. Tonight is a theme night: Mardi Gras. It's an excuse for people who are addicted to food to get together and EAT! Somehow I just don't see how this is right. As it stands, most of the people who go to this meeting have been there for years, and they're still overweight. It's not very encouraging for mom and me, but we're still trying. We shouldn't reward ourselves with food parties, but rather with other things. What? I don't know. But not food. You surely don't say to an alcoholic "Congratulations for coming to your AA meetings for the past 6 months. Here's some free booze!"
Whatever. Hopefully I'm down this week and that will make going worth it.
And now I've run out of things to talk about, so I guess I'll get back to working on my seminar. Good god, give me strength.
Natty, (who'd much rather be sleeping or eating) Out!
