Ok.
Someone seriously needs to enlighten me as to the reasons why the greatest, most delicious candy ever produced is no longer available -anywhere!
I know I'm not the only one who remembers Punky's, though finding much trace of them on the internet is difficult. In my search I was hoping to come across some sort of candy warehouse specializing in discontinued candy sales, but alas I've yet to make such a discovery. What you are seeing to your right is the only surviving picture of Punky's available on the www. And it's not a very good one at that!
I loved Punky's candy. I do love Punky's candy. Ever since I was a kid...In a candy store...I've loved 'em.
I am taken back to a day in 2001. If I'm not mistaken, there was snow upon the ground and the winds were beckoning Kara and I to go shopping. We ventured into an innocuous dollar store and were both stunned and thrilled to find an entire bin of Punky's candy priced at a mere 2 for a dollar. Now Kara, being a nostalgic Punky's lover, was just as into this treasure find as I was. We loaded up out little shopping baskets with handfuls of the marvelous sugar concoction and headed towards the cash. As fate would have it however, and the fates were in a foul mood that snowy day, the store did not accept debit, and we were forced to buy but only 2 a piece, as that was all we could afford.
We never did make it back to that dollar store to reclaim our bounty, and we never will. My two boxes of Punky's did not last very long, despite my attempts to slowly savour them. And here I stand today, sober nearly 5 years without a Punky, and I am filled with lament for the untimely discontinuation of the world's greatest candy.
